We lived in Omaha during those 2 WS
Got to see some of those players as Storm Chasers, and watched many Royals games on basic cable package. Those were great teams. Not too many stars, but they played hard and obviously loved playing with each other.

My guess is they are trying to
Figure out how to make it work. I was told he told Coach Szefc he wanted to stay.

Yes
Hopefully bought enough time for his HS recruiting class of 2027 to get here.
We also need football to get really good and make lots of money for us to be measurably better.

Ian Happ podcast on college baseball/NIL/Player development
I listen to this podcast most weeks with Cubs LF Ian Happ, who played at Cincinnati. They spend some time talking about the college regionals, player development at different levels including college, and how NIL and player development have changed in the last few years.
I started listening to the podcast because my son bought Bruce Bolt batting gloves that were designed by Happ, which included an autogtaphed postcard from Happ. and have since become a fan. He seems like a thoughtful and down to earth guy.
Found it interesting and though I would share.

He came back a few years late "I'm a Cub's fan and a Bud man" commercials
My roomate in grad school had a classic t-shirt with that slogan he got at Wrigley.

I guess today would only be 4 days of rest?
Maybe a 5th day is more regular since they start once a week?

It was a beautiful day at the ballpark
We got tired of watching pitching 15 pitching changes, but it was a beautiful day in Blacksburg for baseball.

This midseason turnaround is good for Blacksburg High sports
Sam can come back and be QB, PG, and Mr. everything for baseball.

Lutterman goes back to the wall, he hits his head on the wall
and it rolls off! It's rolling all the way back to second base. This is a terrible thing for the Hokies!

Not the vocal people on the boards or social media
But you’re right. It just seemed like everyone wanted him gone.

A lot of movies I liked then have become unfunny
I loved every Mike Meyers movie, but now only So I Married an Axe Murderer has stood the test of time for me. Everything else is just cringe after cringe.
Just to be clear, So I Married an Axe Murderer is a masterpiece.

I was in a fender bender when I was 16
And GEICO dropped my parents. My dad was PISSED because he was a career government employee (Government Employee Insurance COmpany) and had GEICO for decades before that. I've always held it against them.

We don't know the whole story
Maybe he's coming here for academic or personal reasons, and maybe we're getting a role player at a low cost. I doubt we're paying him $2MUSD. And we need some willing back-ups.
I remember him annoying me when we played Elon. So that's probably a good thing. He played hard and was scrappy and maybe a little mouthy. Maybe I'll like that when he's on our team.

My wife is sooo mad at my son for staring at his phone all the time
She's the worst out of the 4 of us. He told me yesterday he spent too much time on his phone and wanted to work on that. I've never heard her say that. Only get mad at the rest of us,

I think they're starting to put it together
The 2 ACC series we have left are against teams behind us in the standings. If we could win both of those, and finish at least .500 in the conference, then it would be a decent accomplishment.

Awful and didn't make any difference to me
I take digestive enzymes and thought that might be an alternative, since the digestive enzymes are made with fungus (and I used to make them as a job for 27 years). But the digestive enzymes make a big difference and the RYZE didn't. And it tastes awful.
I would put it in chocolate oat milk and heat it up BTW.

My viewpoint as a parent of a HS player
Very little teaching of fundamentals at any level. My son gets to play at this level because he has a coach at 11 and 12 who was old school tough and taught them stuff. But almost everyone in town hated this coach. But he can do things mentally most kids his age have no idea. Unfortunately he gets overlooked because he's not a physical monster.
Starting really early, the coaches just get the biggest strongest kids they can. Travel teams maybe practice once a week, and it is mostly hitting and how they can maximize exit velocity.
Not how the game was taught to me. I still believe in fundamentals and basebally things. But the machine does not teach it.

I thought the um[ did a great job that game
But there just aren't enough good umps out there. And it gets harder to recruit them, so the quality gets worse and worse.
Since I likely only have 3 years of baseball Dad life left, I would consider doing it except my brain works too slow. It would take me a couple seconds to decide if it was a ball or a strike. Forget about infield fly. I'd figure out a couple plays later. And my skin is to thin.

We lost 15-14 on Monday
We had 4 errors and they walked us 15 times. It went 3 hours - no time limit for HS games (7 innings).
US 14R 8H 4E
THEM 15R 15H 1E
The scorekeeper had a heck of a job. He deserves hazardous duty pay or some sort of massive bonus (it was me). I hate assigning errors, because it is a stupid "statistic" that doesn't help anyone. Especially for kids and parents I like. I kind of wish we went back to my 10U rec ball scoring policy - if the ball hits the bat and you happen to somehow get to third base, that's a triple.
I would guess you could adjust the strike zone (which as you say may be needed) for the level but at least keep it consistent.

I would normally tend to agree with you
But the level of technology, the price and size, of all this stuff changes so quickly.
The amount of data you can get by strapping a phone to the fence behind home plate now is astounding. It might be quickly cheaper to buy a few boxes with cameras and install them at the fields than to pay umps if you can find them.
As I understand MLB, the model is based on the height of the player and not his stance. So everyone who is 5'9" has the same strike zone. (Also, the average size of an MLB player shrunk measurable due to the system being implemented!)
Has a way to go, but I'm not prepared to say will never happen.

I can't wait until we can get it in High School and Travel Ball
Will solve a lot of problems.
Maybe even Recreation Level? Hard to find enough umps and then entitled parents can yell at technology instead of people.

Jacob Young is on a pace to hit 162 HRs
And the Nationals may go 162-0. Or 1-161. I'm pretty sure I know which is more probable.

Well, it's illegal at least
And a person in a position of authority, around kids, should know that.
Immoral? That's up to him, his higher power (if he has one), and his wife (if he has one) to decide.
It would certainly be wrong for me to do it.

These kids likely never played LL
Started playing travel at 8. Where very few coaches teach fundamentals. I had a conversation with my sons first travel coach (at 12) asking to have dome time at practice (I was supposed to be an assistant) to teach the middle infielders how to take cutoffs, hold runners on, take a throw from the catcher, etc. because they were clueless. He told me they should already know that. But they didn’t and we were the coaches. How else would they learn?

He's got to be hurt
Too much history of performance for this to be just a slump. Or the regression to the mean is going to be amazing for the Hokies.

I think Szefc does okay
He's a pretty nice guy if you get a chance to talk to him, but introverted and an old school ball coach (my opinion). He's worked pretty hard to cultivate a group of key donors. Not sure it's enough.
